How important is it to love the work you do?
I would argue it is incredibly important, especially when you consider that people spend about 75 percent of their adult wake time doing work-related activities-
getting ready for work, traveling to work, working, contemplating work, and decompressing after work.
So according to the book Fish!, which is on my top ten brain and body health books, if we spend that much time in that part of our lives, we ought to enjoy it and be energized by it.
Many of us instead have jobs we would describe as toxic, and we dread them. I work consulting with professionals in my field to help them make changes to their situation and overcome burnout so they can escape the toxic energy dump that is making them sick.
While they are working through these changes, I advise them there is still good news because they still have a choice- They can still choose how they react and how they start their day.
Here’s the simple menu choices for the day I offer them which I adapted from the book.
CHOOSE HAPPY!
Try it you just might like it and comment if this helped you have a better day at work.
